When I was in my 20's, single with no kids and lived in LA, I would volunteer for all the fundraisers, donate my products, help my friends doing social justice work and offer my time to all the community centers I could possibly squeeze into my day. (And hey, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this, in fact I still love volunteering. Just hear me out and keep reading...)
Then, when I had kids, I'd do all the things for them, my family AND my community and ALWAYS left myself last, not realizing that I was not offering my best self when I was overwhelmed and depleted... in fact, I usually wouldn't realize I was burned out until it was too late.
When I say "all the things", I mean: cloth diapers, made my own baby food, nursing exclusively (no formula), baby and children products, my own laundry detergent, homeschool, big birthday parties, performing, traveling, vending at farmers markets, I really meant #allthethings. And again, THERE IS NOTHING wrong with this... unless you do them with resentment and is making you unhealthy.
I thought being unhappy (or numb) and making others happy was "normal" because I was now a mom.
I thought serving others, before serving myself, was the best way to help but I soon realized I was helping NO ONE when the "self destruction" would kick in... then the guilt... It took me a while to realize my health and emotional well being was suffering because of this way of thinking. I wasn't honoring myself or my creativity.
I learned how to STOP THE OVERWHELM... and HONOR MY TIME.
I learned that "over giving" is a beautiful thing when done without resentment. It is a GIFT for both the receiver and the giver.
I used to think CREATIVITY & SELF CARE was unimportant & selfish. This limiting belief I was holding on to was not stopping me from being creative but I felt guilty and I was hiding my true self and gifts from everyone.
Now I realize that those of us with the BIGGEST HEARTS & CREATIVE MINDS have the potential to create a huge positive impact in the world by being ourselves fully and discovering & sharing our gifts with others... but we can't do this when we're always depleted & burned out.
I no longer work till I "crash and burn" and I now TRUST myself with all the decisions I make and have lots of energy to do more of the things I love to do.
I'm INSPIRED to do more of the things I love, which benefits others! Things like foster dogs and cats and create online communities with other creative and compassionate women who want to discover and share their gifts with others.
As an Empath, I also discovered that my self care was CRUCIAL for my well being and productivity.
THE MORE MY OWN NEEDS ARE MET, THE MORE MY LIGHT WILL SHINE & THE MORE I HAVE TO OFFER WITH LESS EFFORT.
It is NOT selfish to wake up in the morning and light a candle and journal before making breakfast for the kids or feed your dogs. Your doggie and family will love you for this because you will then be GIFTING them your JOY & HAPPINESS knowing that you fulfilled your needs first and they are not a burden to you = )
What are YOUR self care rituals? Have you ever thought about what you need first thing in the morning in order to set yourself up for a wonderful day? How do you feel when you lay your head on the pillow at night? Tired, yet, fulfilled and happy? Or tired, resentful and lost?
What I have learned over the years about myself from slowly creating practices that help me fulfill my needs is that I first needed to IDENTIFY what my needs were!
After many years of always over giving with resentment, always looking outside of myself for approval, many years of wanting to please others and prove that I was "good enough" to deserve love and happiness, I learned that I didn't even know what my needs were, let alone fulfill them myself.
So what did I do?
I started writing. Writing about all the emotions, all the truth about myself I had deeply hidden inside my being. When writing about the unfortunate truth about my life, I began slowly. Just writing little hints, and slowly I began to develop the courage to see my whole self, my flaws, my strengths, my gifts and talents. I began connecting to my soul again. I realized my soul was lost. And then I would burn these pieces of paper so that NO ONE will ever see them. It felt good to get all these emotions out of my body and onto paper. And when I lit this paper on fire it felt good! Like I was REALLY letting it go!
This was the beginning of one of my "clearing" self care rituals. I did this as a teenager many times too. I started writing poetry when I was 14 years old. By the time I was 16, I was an angry, depressed teen, who wrote poems, scribbled and crossed out and ripped up these pieces of paper and threw them away... sometimes burn them with my cigarettes or lighter. At that age, I was already unconsciously practicing these clearing and releasing rituals... not knowing I will continue doing these same rituals years later and teaching others how to do them. In fact, after being Certified in Hypnotherapy and taking a few courses in NLP, this type of ritual is actually included in some of the lessons. Interesting right? The reason this works, is because our unconscious mind thinks it is real, it REALLY thinks we are literally letting go of these destructive thoughts and behaviors. Pretty cool right? Most of these negative thoughts and behavioral patterns that we have trouble taming live in our subconscious mind. So it very possible to transform them by practicing this type of ritual often and BELIEVE it will work for you.
Here is the Clearing and Releasing Ritual you can try for yourself. I like doing this type of ritual Monthly, right before the New Moon before a new moon cycle begins so that I feel like im getting a "fresh start" on my life. I do this ritual to let go of all the funky feelings I've been carrying around, all the fear and doubt that creeps and "sticks" to us all month long with every challenge or obstacle we go through. I don't always do this monthly and when I skip a few months I definitely feel it. I start having feelings of self abandonment and neglect, like I haven't checked in to my Intuition and Inner Wisdom and I have been carrying all this energetic heavy weight around. It's very subtle and not so obvious. But when you begin writing things down. writing down all of the things you want to let go of and clear you will feel the difference! You will feel great and have a feeling of accomplishment... like you've had a productive day, even though all you did was connect and check in your body and soul. (Well, you will do a little more than that, as you will read in the step by step process) But it will go to show you how powerful this practice is if you take the time to do it! Try it and let me know what it did for you!
CLEARING AND RELEASING RITUAL
for energetically and emotionally creating space for allowing new intentions to come into your life.
1. Grab a piece of paper and pen.
2. Before you begin writing, close your eyes and observe your breath. Take 3 deep inhales and exhales very slowly and bring your awareness down from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Really allow yourself to become fully present and aware of your body. Focus on your heart by placing one hand over your chest.
3. Slowly open your eyes and begin to write. Write down all the things you would like to let go of in your life. Write down all the things that do not serve you. You can write down physical things, like clutter, negative thoughts, let go of fear, sluggish energy, unhealthy patterns that keep repeating themselves. Write down whatever comes to mind. Write quickly, do not overthink it. It does not have to be perfect. Do not worry about forgetting something... you can do this ritual any time you need to!
4. Burn this piece of paper. Keep the ashes./ or rip it up and throw it OUTSIDE in a trashcan or dumpster. Please be careful when working with Fire. (Use an ashtray, an iron skillet over your stove, a pot or something beautiful you normally burn copal or incense in for ceremony. It doesn't matter what you use. What's important is that the Fire Element turns these thoughts and events into ashes)
5. Hold some of the ashes in your hand, go outside and let the element of Air blow them away. Air is about movement and giving life to stagnant energy.~These old thought patterns, habits and emotions have been stagnant in your body.~As you release these ashes from your hand visualize yourself transforming them into something new. Once these ashes are gone so are these things that no longer serve you!
6. Discard the rest of the ashes anywhere you like.

I know this seems obvious but remember... reflection questions are not intended for changing external circumstances we have no control over,
Reflection Questions and Self Care Rituals are intended for changing our actions and behaviors, and ALIGNING with what is most important in order to live the best life we can, with the current circumstances we are in.💜⭐️ THEN... after we align with what is most important to us, external change can begin to manifest. The change starts within us first.

Wow what a year it has been right? Have you guys all landed in 2020 yet? My feet are just started to hit the ground... like just my tippy-toes I think lol, because all of the January plans I set for myself in December went out the window on the first week of January! But hey, its ok... this is just another opportunity to reach into my spiritual toolbox and make sure that my action steps for the rest of 2020 are aligned with my spirit. What I thought I wanted for this year has completely changed! And I am totally at peace now because my circumstances "forced" me to slow down and REFLECT 😊 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ✨🌙 BEFORE YOU SET YOUR 2020 YEARLY INTENTIONS💫
I just love setting goals for myself, breaking down those big tasks into small chunks I can tackle in 20- 30 minute increments so that little by little, by the end of the month I can see my progress! ...however, before I start on those "should do's" or "to-do's" I like getting clear on my deep desires, things that truly matter to me, my INTENTIONS. And even before I do THAT, I take time for solitude and REFLECTION. ✨Have you taken time to reflect on the last 12 months, the last 3 months or even how you feel about this week that just passed? ✨If so, how do you do that? Write it down on paper? Talk to a friend? Express yourself on social media or groups? During the Winter months and this Dark Moon phase, some of us may experience low energy, a need for solitude, a need for lots of rest, heightened intuition and a need to recharge and regenerate. And I encourage you to embrace this “shadow" time. I know this may be easier said than done but if you have a need to start setting goals and new year intentions for yourself, but have not started, thats ok! This is probably because your soul is asking you to take time and reflect first. And maybe start a self care practice of Journaling???

This is why i’ve been so quiet on social media these last couple of months. My cup has not been filled enough to offer my services or shine my light outside of my home and family.
And sometimes I question myself: “Am I being a perfectionist? Waiting for the “perfect” moment to write the “perfect email?” Hmm… “Am I hiding? Waiting till all the obstacles are over… THEN I will share happy content and inspire my community?” Hmm… “Or am I just exhausted and sleep deprived? Focusing my energy on sick kids, emotional teenagers, my own emotional and spiritual healing as I tried facing these last 8 weeks head on without sticking my head in the sand?” YUP. This is the one. This feels like the truth.
The first 2 statements may or may not be true but it doesn’t matter. Things are far from “perfect”, the challenges and obstacles are NOT OVER and I am making a CHOICE right now to finally reach out and share some of the self care practices I need to start in order to fill my cup.
~I’m exhausted- but empowered.

I made her a hot chamomile tea and while waiting for the tea to cool off, I have her inhale the steam through her nose and mouth to help with her cough. WE WERE PEACEFUL. Making fun shapes with Kinetic sand she loves to play with. No more fever and her temperature finally normal after 3 sleepless nights. I WAS SO HAPPY I no longer had to take her to the doctor to get a school note. And I finally had the energy and inspiration to write this email! and its New Moon, yay! I thought I would be able to write this email quickly- and be done by 2pm... just share my New Moon intentions and calendar in an hour…. Sigh…. I have had to stop writing this email many times to tend to my little Violetta. Temperature is back up. And it looks like she has a little rash. Here I am finishing this email and sending it right past 11pm. Its ok though because this small task is a big win for me these days : )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listen, im not writing all this for you guys to feel sorry for me. I share this in order to better relate and connect. To remind myself that I am not alone… WE ARE NOT ALONE in our challenges and obstacles. And also to remind you and everyone out there (and myself!) its gonna be ok.
Last year was amazing…its seemed like I just flowed. Sure I had a few hiccups here and there but I manifested things and experiences relatively quick. But this Winter has been a time of reflection, a bit of “damage control” in my home, putting out “fires” and major Spiritual Expansion. Phew!
And in the middle of these challenges and obstacles it is so easy to get into “victim mode” if we don’t start to take some sort of self care action- and stay committed.
And believe me I have had some of those days feeling sorry for myself and that’s ok too! It happens! There is a fine line between REFLECTING and getting stuck in a Victim Mentality. So yeah, Honestly, Its been a lil too much… all my emotional wounds came up, not just kids getting sick but I finally dealt with my dentist phobias… and new teenage son issues I wasn’t ready for!!!
And I know this is all part of empowerment and spiritual expansion because no amount of positive thinking will make this stuff go away! Yes. positive thinking and visualization serves a purpose sometimes.. but its purpose is not for us to stick our head in the sand.
I truly believe that every challenge and obstacle serves a PURPOSE and offers us an opportunity for growth and expansion. Do you???
In the middle of the storm when IT ALL SUCKS! is when gratitude serves a purpose. THIS IS EXACTLY WHEN WE NEED SELF LOVE and SELF CARE... NOT WHEN EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE AND PERFECT. That's the point of self care right??! To love & nourish ourselves when times are tough.

1. Create a self care list. What are 1 -3 things you would like to do for yourself daily for the next 5 days? or choose ONE THING to do this week.
For example I kept my self care list super simple just to get the ball rolling. I'm committing to these 3 things for the next 5 days: -1. Track my water intake -2. Ten minutes of daily yoga (if i do more, awesome!) -3. 10 minutes of journaling. Thats it!
And my ONE thing for the week is to go to acupuncture. That's If Violetta ends up going back to school this week, if not, ill go next week.
No guilt. No shame. No judgement. Keep it simple. Do what you can.
SELF CARE TIP: ~10 MINUTES OF SELF CARE~ COMMIT to sit down and work on one of these tasks for 10 minutes. 10 minutes of laser focus on YOU. AND USE A TIMER!! If you have another 10 minutes, keep going. another 10 minutes, keep going.
This is how I was able to fill my cup this morning. I have been filling my cup 10 minutes at a time all day today… and I felt so good.. I even stretched myself a bit and completed this email : )
Salt- To a chemist it is called sodium chloride, to a minerologist it is Halite, to an energy and light worker it is a crystal used in ceremony and ritual for healing.
A salt crystal is in a perfect energetic state of equilibrium. it is neither giving off energy nor taking it in.
Its chemical component is NaCl Its sodium atoms are missing one electron, giving them a positive charge (- Na +) and its chlorine atoms have an excess electron, making them negatively charged (- CI -)
To a Libra like me anything that has a yin and yang, an opposite effect from each other representing any type of “balance”... I just love knowing that about SALT!
Also, this chemical component is probably the reason why it is such a widely used tool in ancient shamanism and modern alternative healing methods as well.
According to Ronald Bonewitz Phd, crystals do not “give off” healing energy.. however they can be used for healing.
“The human energy field- the aura- can interact with animal, plant, mineral and other energy fields.” this is how we benefit from using crystals for healing.
Although the crystal will not “do” anything, by interacting with the crystal it is our own body that will sense a response.
Just like a mirror reflects our physical appearance. the inner nature of a crystal will also REFLECT back very deep levels of our being
“…wherein resides the very essence of who you are.
And by contrast , these parts of yourself that are not in harmony with that essence will mirror” where it is you need healing and everything about yourself that you need to be aware of. (Way of Crystal Healing book by Ronald Bonewitz, Phd.
He also goes on to state “the longer and more involved the contact, the greater the energy exchange”
I didn’t need this explanation to start working with salt and crystals and integrate it with essential oils years ago, However I am a very curious person!
And I wanted a scientific justification to explain my attraction to rocks, minerals and why I was always presented with some form of salt in Sun Ceremonies in Colombia and in Sweat Lodges.
Also, I hope this very short and limited explanation inspires you to start looking at Salt with essential oils in a whole new way! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW TO USE SALT, ESSENTIAL OILS & THE MOON TO CREATE A SELF CARE RITUAL
1. Create a “SALT RITUAL” before setting your New Moon Intentions (see recipe below)
2. Dark Moon Journaling:
~We have been in the Dark Moon phase for the last few days. Before you write down your NEW MOON intentions, use your journal or Moon Calendar to record any significant Thoughts, Feelings or Actions you have been experiencing these last few days. This will be very valuable information to reflect on 3 to 4 weeks from now (In your Lunar Planning calendar go to the 'Dark Moon' section in "Moon Cycle Check-In" in your DecemberCalendar)
Then use this Recipe for REFLECTION and to prepare energetically for a new Journey!
Resins & Roots ~ENERGY CLEARING BATH Salts Recipe
1. ESSENTIAL OILS
2 drops of Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) *Do not use Myrrh if pregnant
2 drops of Frankincense (Boswellia carterri, frereana, or serrata is fine) *Please use sustainably sourced Frankincense
2 drops of Vetiver (vetivera zizanoides)
2 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus Atlas, Texas or Virginian is fine) *Please use sustainably sourced Cedarwood Atlas Plus 2 drops of one more essential oil of your choice.
2. ADD CARRIER OIL
2 tablespoons (or 1 oz) of carrier oil to dilute. Add more carrier oil depending on how oily you would like it.
Then add SALT to desired consistency I prefer Pink Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt, but any salt with do! No need for perfection just do it and create this first experience there is plenty of time to improve your bath salt and body scrub process
4. EPSOM SALT (optional)
I also like using Epsom salt which is actually Magnesium Sulfate. I haven’t done too much research on Epsom salt but I know magnesium is good for us, so I use it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INSTRUCTIONS: ~Make your blend first, run a warm bath then add your blend directly into the water or use as a body scrub on your chest and shoulders while in the bath. Please your essential oil before adding to your bath.
~BLEND your essential oil with either fractionated coconut oil, olive oil or grape seed oil, mix well and then add to your bath. ~Essential oils are not soluble in water, meaning they do not mix in the water. So essential oils will stay floating at the surface of your bath and will not evenly distribute in your bath water unless they are mixed in a base oil. ~Many essential oils are pretty safe to use un-diluted but there have been some cases of people having reactions to organic 100% pure oils like peppermint and lemon essential oil. Please be safe, especially around children.
🌿Angel created a small Fire in our backyard a couple of days ago before going away for work for 2 weeks. I have been working with Myrrh Essential oil all week. I feel there is some energetic learning I need from this oil so it was really cool to integrate it with this fire.
I was staring at the fire and thought: Whether you have been part of a Sweat Lodge guided by a Fire Keeper, built a campfire at a campsite or admired the candle's flame at your favorite spa, there is no denying the Transformative Powers of the Fire Element.
I created a simple ritual for myself with this Fire Ceremony using
~ Dried Lavender flowers and ~ Myrrh Essential Oil
Fire just makes you FEEL something doesn't it?
Needless to say, after my fire ritual powerful stuff came through!
And of course being a writer that just needs to write EVERYTHING down... I had to write really quickly to jot it all down.
And of course being a poet... a poem also came through.
Poems don't happen every day like they used to. So it was special Poetry literally just comes THROUGH me... no thinking involved really, except for a little bit of editing after all the words stop flowing. Its a very interesting experience for me, sort of like an energetic purge.

I've gotta say that after 15 years of Healing and Wisdom received from these plant allies hav the greatest teaching I have received is TRUSTING MY INTUITION.
Its so easy to overthink everything, especially when we are attracted to certain things and experiences.
It's so easy to ignore our needs and desires and dismiss our INTUITION because we may label and perceive it as "unimportant".
This is what I used to think when CREATING MY OWN SELF CARE RITUALS. Now I know better! But this sort of thinking still gets in the way of allowing my POETRY to come through me.
But I want to remind you to LISTEN!
Your Intuition is EVERYTHING! Sure hard work and education is important but so is confidence in the decisions you make. And so is SHARING YOUR GIFTS with the world.
When I allow myself to "energetically purge" on paper, I not only feel so much freer and grounded but I am also much more productive with my everyday tasks. So please allow your true nature and creativity to flow!

So what I know for sure these days is that the more you practice saying YES to experiences, things and people that bring you joy or are simply curious about, the more you will get to know yourself and create healthy boundaries. Creating healthy boundaries is essential for reducing anxiety and overwhelm and facing challenges with confidence. Because of course, finding the courage to try new things and create change isn't always easy!

💫1. Find a quiet place to sit. Gift yourself 1 or 2 minutes of complete Presence.
💫2. Take a deep breathe and let everything go for a few seconds, put your hand over your heart
💫3. Expand your vibration and create an energetic container for activating your new seeds of intention.Visualize all of things you are grateful for, all the things that are going well in your life.Feel it! Close your eyes and feel a sense of well being for all of the blessings in your life.

Remain still. Don’t expect anything to happen at that moment, if it does great! But the purpose of doing this is to connect to your body/mind/soul, so that you ask for exactly what you need in order to manifest the experience that will serve you best.
💫5. Write down your intentions and keep them near your altar as a reminder of your New Moon "wishes" for the next 29 days!
I don’t have it all figured out so when I stumble and fall I call it Poetry. Life gets messy, its Poetic Living.
Poetry. It’s what i like to call it when life tries to knock me down, its when i find the things I’m grateful for, its when i NEED to express myself, its when I stop to take a breath and look at my beautiful children, and my amazing husband, its when I remember…I can have running water in my home any time I want…its also when I Forget, “wait, other people don’t have running water.. who am i to enjoy…” Wait..It’s when i NEED to remember... Guilt will not serve me, feeling shame will not serve me…so why should I be grateful again? Oh right. Because I actually CARE. I actually DO care about the world. I actually want to do something about it. So i NEED to remember…to be WELL. To live my life, every moment of my life Remembering.. and forgetting.. and then REMEMBERING again.. because its NECESSARY in this world of injustices, and beauty and corruption and love and Hate.. it all lives here.. together on this Planet whether we like it or not.

And we need to Feel these things…inside of us FIRST.. so that we don’t project them onto others.. especially our loved ones. So who else has gotten in a fight with someone they love over a political issue or something horrible that is happening in the world... something horrible that hateful, disgusting people created.. and then we choose, whether consciously or unconsciously, to bring this energy into our home?
Well then, if we don’t bring it into our home are we in denial or in La-la land? NO. but do we know how to handle it? Who will teach us to SEE it & PROCESS this entity in a way that will not feed IT the sadness, anger, guilt & shame that it craves from us? Do we know how? Is it even possible to process this LIFE, Consciously, lovingly, with PRACTICAL Anger so as to not invite this hidden agenda of disempowerment into our daily living?
Me neither. But I TRY daily. I intend it…. to see beauty, to see truth. to feel. to live. really live. remembering… sometimes forgetting… but then I Remember… I make it a monthly intention and then I choose not to hide or run away from what is needed of me. We are each the Sun & the Light that helps each other SEE.

I have been using the 4 phases of the Moon (and essential oils of course!) to manifest my goals and set intentions for the life I want to live over the last 6 years maybe longer... and I have been writing Poetry to turn my challenges into Beauty for even longer ..for over 20 years! I wrote a poetry book called "Phases of the Moon" in my 20's when I had no idea how the Phases of the Moon would influence my life today. I honestly feel that safely moving my family to Ukiah from Los Angeles 2 yrs ago and successfully finding a home in a place that is considered to have a "housing crisis" could not have happened without having daily self care rituals, following my intuition, Spirituality, and connecting with Earth's natural rhythms & cycles including the Sun & Moon. I've learned that our environment & the natural world around us has many lessons to teach us.
These practices did not "magically" make my home appear out of thin air- but it definitely raised my confidence and gave me the courage to BELIEVE that it was even possible!
